Housing in the Kaziranga region reflects a blend of traditional adaptation and modern commercial development. In the indigenous Mishing villages, houses are traditionally built on bamboo stilts (known as "chang ghar") to protect families and their belongings from the inevitable monsoon floods.
In commercial hubs like Kohora and Bokakhat, housing is more conventional, consisting of concrete single-family homes and small apartment blocks. The real estate market is highly skewed toward commercial hospitality; land along National Highway 715 near the park gates is dominated by luxury eco-resorts, budget hotels, and increasingly popular residential homestays. Affordable housing is generally self-built in rural village formats, though state housing schemes occasionally provide concrete dwellings for impoverished families.
