Waterways are fundamental to Karimganj's geography and history. The city is situated on the banks of the **Kushiyara River**, a major transboundary river that bifurcates from the Barak River and acts as the natural border between India and Bangladesh. Other significant rivers flowing through the district include the **Longai** and the **Shingla**. These rivers, alongside the vast **Son Beel** wetland, govern the region's agricultural cycles and provide vital local fisheries.
