Recreation in Jorhat is heavily influenced by its colonial past and natural surroundings. The **Jorhat Gymkhana Club**, built in 1876, is a major recreational hub featuring a nine-hole golf course (reputed to be the oldest in Asia and third-oldest in the world), grass tennis courts, a swimming pool, and an equestrian track. Locals frequently enjoy walking and cycling through the serene, paved paths of the surrounding tea gardens. The city also serves as a basecamp for boating on the Brahmaputra River and exploring nearby wildlife reserves.
