The topography of Goalpara is defined by its transition from the vast, flat floodplains of the Brahmaputra valley to the undulating foothills of the Meghalaya plateau. While the city itself rests at a low elevation of approximately 35 meters above sea level, the landscape is beautifully punctuated by several prominent hillocks.
The most notable topographical feature in the vicinity is Sri Surya Pahar, a rugged, rocky hill that rises dramatically from the plains. Hulukanda Hill is another prominent elevation located near the heart of the city. The northern edges of the city and district are dominated by the active flood plains and shifting sandy banks of the Brahmaputra, making the region both agriculturally fertile and susceptible to seasonal changes.
