Goalpara is strategically located in the western part of Assam, flanked by the Brahmaputra River to its north and the Garo Hills of Meghalaya to its south. The city itself sits on relatively flat, fertile alluvial soil deposited over millennia by the Brahmaputra and its tributaries, such as the Dudhnoi and Krishnai rivers.
The region's geography is highly riverine, marked by the presence of numerous *beels* (wetlands) and *chars* (shifting riverine islands). These wetlands not only support a rich variety of local flora and fauna but also act as natural reservoirs during the heavy monsoon season. The dense deciduous forests on the outskirts of the city are home to diverse wildlife, including elephants and various species of primates and birds.
