Agriculture in and around Roing relies on both traditional shifting cultivation (Jhum) in the hills and settled cultivation in the plains.
Horticulture is particularly successful in this region. Roing is famous for its citrus fruits, especially oranges, which are exported to other states. Other major cash crops include ginger, mustard, pineapples, and increasingly, kiwi and tea. Paddy (rice) is the staple food crop cultivated in the flatter areas and terraced slopes.
Livestock plays a crucial role in the local agrarian economy. The Mithun (Bos frontalis), a semi-domesticated bovine, holds immense cultural and economic value for the indigenous tribes and is considered a symbol of wealth. Piggery and poultry farming are also common at the household level.
