Housing

The housing market in Naharlagun has experienced intense pressure due to rapid population growth and rural-to-urban migration.

The city is systematically divided into alphabetized "Sectors" (A-Sector, B-Sector, etc.), a legacy of early urban planning by the government. Housing predominantly consists of RCC (Reinforced Cement Concrete) multi-story buildings, necessary to withstand the heavy monsoon rains and seismic activity. On the outskirts and in older settlements, traditional houses built on stilts using bamboo, wood, and tin roofing can still be found.

Rental costs have surged in recent years, largely driven by the influx of students and medical staff associated with TRIHMS and Rajiv Gandhi University (located in nearby Rono Hills). Government quarters house a significant portion of the civil servant population.
