Transportation

Transportation in Khonsa is primarily road-based. The town is connected to the rest of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam via National Highway 215 and NH 315. The winding, mountainous roads offer scenic views but are prone to landslides during the heavy monsoon season.

Public transit is managed by the Arunachal Pradesh State Transport Services (APSTS), which operates daily bus services connecting Khonsa to major hubs like Itanagar, Dibrugarh, and Tinsukia. Shared taxis (Sumos and Boleros) are the most popular and frequent mode of transport for both inter-city and intra-district travel.

Khonsa has no railway station or commercial airport. The nearest railway station is in Tinsukia, Assam (approx. 110 km away), and the nearest airport is Dibrugarh Airport (Mohanbari) in Assam. For emergency and VIP transit, the town is serviced by a helipad, with occasional Pawan Hans helicopter services connecting it to Itanagar and Dibrugarh.
