Itanagar's topography is highly undulating, characterized by a series of steep hills, ridges, and deep valleys. The city is built directly onto the slopes of the foothills, leading to winding roads and terraced developments. Elevations within the city vary significantly, ranging from approximately 350 meters in the lower valleys to over 750 meters on the higher ridges. The varied elevation gives the city a multi-tiered appearance, with government buildings, residential neighborhoods, and commercial centers scattered across different altitudes. The terrain dictates much of the city's urban planning, forcing development along the natural contours of the hills.
