Daporijo is located in the eastern Himalayan range of Arunachal Pradesh. The town is situated on the right bank of the Subansiri River, carving its way through the rugged mountainous terrain. The physical geography of the area is characterized by steep, densely forested hills, deep ravines, and fertile river valleys.
The surrounding forests are characterized by broadleaf and sub-tropical evergreen vegetation, home to an extraordinary diversity of flora and fauna. Orchids, medicinal plants, and extensive bamboo groves are abundant. Wildlife in the greater Upper Subansiri region includes various species of deer, macaques, and a rich array of birdlife, though the immediate vicinity of the town has seen habitat reduction due to human settlement.
