Set in the Eastern Himalayas, Daporijo boasts an incredibly rich and pristine natural environment.
* **Air and Water Quality**: Due to the absence of heavy industry, air quality is typically excellent. The Subansiri River provides a major, continuous flow of fresh mountain water, though it carries heavy silt loads during the monsoons. * **Biodiversity**: The surrounding subtropical forests are home to diverse flora and fauna, including medicinal plants, orchids, and several species of endemic birds and wildlife. Bamboo and cane grow abundantly. * **Topography & Climate**: The town is situated in a valley at approximately 600 meters above sea level, giving it a subtropical climate. Summers are warm and humid, while winters are cool and pleasant. * **Protected Areas**: While Daporijo itself is a bustling town, it serves as a gateway to untouched wilderness in the higher reaches of the Upper Subansiri district. * **Sustainability**: Traditional agricultural practices, like shifting cultivation (Jhum), are deeply tied to the environment.
