The topography of Anini is dramatic and vertiginous. Set at an elevation of nearly 2,000 meters, the town is flanked by towering, snow-capped peaks that rise well above 4,000 to 5,000 meters. The landscape is deeply dissected by fast-flowing rivers that have carved out immense, V-shaped gorges.
Because Anini rests on a rare, relatively flat ridge surrounded by these steep inclines, it serves as a natural haven for settlement. However, the steep slopes of the surrounding valleys are highly prone to landslides during the monsoon season. Northwards, the topography steadily ascends toward the crest of the Himalayas, transitioning from subtropical pine and broadleaf forests into stark alpine tundra and glacial zones.
