Aalo sits at an average elevation of 619 meters (2,031 feet) above sea level. Unlike the steep, cliff-side settlements common in much of Arunachal Pradesh, the Aalo valley floor is relatively flat and expansive, making it ideal for settlement, agriculture, and civic infrastructure.
However, this flat basin is abruptly enclosed by the steep foothills of the Eastern Himalayas. The landscape is characterized by terraced hillsides, riverbanks strewn with large boulders, and deep ravines carved by tributaries feeding into the Yomgo River. The surrounding mountain ridges provide a dramatic backdrop to the town.
