Agriculture in and around Aalo transitions between traditional shifting cultivation (known locally as Jhum) and settled terrace farming. Paddy (rice) is the most critical staple crop, supplemented by maize, millet, and seasonal vegetables.
Aalo is particularly renowned for its horticulture. The region's climate is highly conducive to growing citrus fruits, earning it the nickname 'Orange Bowl of Arunachal.' Apples, kiwis, and pineapples are also cultivated successfully.
Livestock rearing is integral to the agricultural economy and cultural life. The Mithun (Bos frontalis), a semi-domesticated bovine, holds immense socio-cultural and economic value for the Galo people. Pigs and poultry are also widely raised. Additionally, the rivers provide local fisheries, and the surrounding forests offer non-timber forest products and resources for traditional practices.
