According to the 2011 Census of India, the Mayabunder Tehsil has a population of approximately 23,732, spread across the main town and surrounding villages.
The town is notable for its incredible ethnic and linguistic diversity. The population primarily consists of Bengali settlers, the Karen community (descendants of Burmese migrants), and communities from Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Kerala. Consequently, while Hindi and English serve as official and linking languages, Bengali, Karen, Tamil, and Telugu are spoken extensively in homes and local markets. The area is a peaceful melting pot of Hindu, Christian, and Muslim communities.
