Situated about 41 km (25 miles) northeast of the territory's capital, Port Blair, Havelock is the largest island in Ritchie's Archipelago. The island's physical geography is defined by a striking contrast between deep, dense tropical rainforests in the interior and spectacular sandy coastlines on its perimeter.
The geography of the island is relatively small but highly diverse. The eastern coast is fringed by shallow waters and extensive coral reefs, making it ideal for snorkeling and diving. The western coast, home to Radhanagar Beach, features wider sandy expanses and dramatic sunsets over the open sea.
The island's natural resources largely center around its rich marine biodiversity and its forests, which are heavily protected under Indian law. Mangrove creeks dot the island's edges, serving as vital ecological nurseries for fish and protection against coastal erosion.
