Diglipur is the most populous tehsil (sub-district) in the North and Middle Andaman district. According to the most recent comprehensive census, the Diglipur tehsil has a population of approximately 43,000 residents. The town proper is smaller, functioning as the administrative and commercial center for surrounding villages.
The population is highly diverse, heavily shaped by mid-20th-century resettlement programs. The majority of residents are of Bengali descent, alongside significant communities of Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi speakers from various mainland states. Hinduism is the predominant religion, followed by Islam and Christianity. This diversity has fostered a unique island culture where mainland Indian traditions are celebrated in a remote, maritime setting. A large portion of the population relies on agriculture, fishing, and local government services for employment.
