Campbell Bay is located on the eastern coast of Great Nicobar Island, facing the Andaman Sea. The island is the southernmost part of the Andaman and Nicobar archipelago and is situated roughly 160 kilometers (99 miles) north of Sumatra, Indonesia. The geography is characterized by dense tropical evergreen forests, which cover the vast majority of the island.
The natural environment around Campbell Bay is pristine and highly protected. It forms part of the Great Nicobar Biosphere Reserve, which encompasses both the Galathea National Park to the south and the Campbell Bay National Park to the north. The area is rich in natural resources, though industrial exploitation has historically been prohibited to protect the fragile ecosystem and the indigenous populations. The coastline features a mix of sandy beaches, mangrove creeks, and rocky outcrops, heavily shaped by tectonic subsidence following the 2004 earthquake.
