Infrastructure

Thimphu enjoys the most developed infrastructure in Bhutan, serving as the benchmark for the country's modernization.

* **Electricity:** Almost 100% of the district has access to stable electricity, managed by the Bhutan Power Corporation (BPC). The power is predominantly sourced from Bhutan's vast network of clean, run-of-the-river hydroelectric plants. * **Water & Sewer:** Municipal water is supplied to most of the city, though seasonal shortages during dry winter months are a recurring issue. A modern wastewater treatment plant operates in the southern suburb of Babesa. * **Telecommunications:** Cellular coverage is excellent, provided by state-backed B-Mobile (Bhutan Telecom) and private operator TashiCell. * **Internet:** Broadband and fiber-optic internet connections are widely available across the city, supporting local businesses, government ministries, and the Thimphu TechPark.
