Events

Thimphu hosts some of the most vibrant and culturally significant gatherings in the country.

* **Thimphu Tshechu:** Held annually in autumn (usually September/October) in the courtyard of Tashichho Dzong. This multi-day festival features intricate cham (mask dances) performed by monks, drawing thousands of locals dressed in their finest ghos and kiras. * **Thimphu Drubchen:** Occurring just before the Tshechu, this event involves deep meditation practices and features the sacred dance dedicated to the protecting deity of Bhutan, Pelden Lhamo. * **Weekend Centenary Farmers Market:** A weekly community event in itself, where farmers from across the country converge to sell produce, fostering intense social and economic exchange. * **National Day (December 17):** Frequently celebrated in Thimphu at Changlimithang Stadium with addresses by the King, parades, and cultural performances.
