Phuentsholing is uniquely reliant on road transportation. The town is the terminus of the Asian Highway (AH48) connecting to Thimphu, and National Highway 317A on the Indian side. The town features a busy bus terminal with daily services connecting to Thimphu, Paro, and districts across Bhutan.
There is no domestic or international commercial airport in Phuentsholing. The nearest airport is Bagdogra Airport in Siliguri, India (approx. 4-5 hours away), and the nearest Bhutanese airport is Paro International Airport. Similarly, there is no railway network in Bhutan, so the closest railhead is Hashimara Railway Station in West Bengal, India. Taxis and local city buses are the primary modes of public transit within the Thromde.
