Economy

Phuentsholing is the economic powerhouse of Bhutan. An estimated 70% to 80% of Bhutan's total imports and exports pass through the Phuentsholing-Jaigaon border. It is the country's primary wholesale and retail hub, supplying goods to the capital, Thimphu, and other interior regions.

The town serves as the financial center for cross-border trade, hosting regional headquarters for the Royal Monetary Authority, the Bank of Bhutan, Bhutan National Bank, and other financial institutions. While median income data specifically for the Thromde is not readily available, the cost of living is notably high, driven by a shortage of available land for expansion and high demand for commercial real estate.
