As an urban municipality, commercial agriculture within Phuentsholing Thromde is minimal. However, it serves as the critical export hub for agricultural products grown in the surrounding Chukha Dzongkhag and neighboring districts.
Major exports passing through Phuentsholing include mandarin oranges, cardamom, apples, and potatoes, which are transported to markets in India and Bangladesh. The town also imports the vast majority of the agricultural produce and packaged food consumed in western Bhutan.
