Roadways are the primary mode of transit, utilizing a massive network of public and private buses, microbuses, and ride-sharing services (like Uber and Pathao). The city is famously home to hundreds of thousands of cycle rickshaws, which serve as crucial last-mile transport, alongside compressed natural gas (CNG) auto-rickshaws.
To combat gridlock, the government recently inaugurated the Dhaka Metro Rail (MRT Line-6) and the Dhaka Elevated Expressway, marking a new era of rapid transit. For intercity travel, Kamalapur Railway Station serves as the central hub for the Bangladesh Railway, connecting Dhaka to Chittagong, Sylhet, and Rajshahi.
