Rice is the dominant crop, cultivated in three distinct seasons: Aus, Aman, and Boro, ensuring continuous food production. Other major crops include jute, wheat, oilseeds (like mustard), and sugarcane. The region is also known for producing a variety of tropical fruits, notably jackfruit, mangoes, bananas, and pineapples (especially in the Madhupur tract).
Fisheries play an essential role in both the diet and the economy. The extensive river networks and seasonal floodplains provide abundant freshwater fish (like Hilsa, Rohu, and Catla), while modern aquaculture and commercial poultry farming have seen massive growth in districts surrounding the capital to feed the urban population.
